Barcelona Airport – Catalonia (Spain)

Aircraft have made the world smaller, but the damage they cause is increasingly unsustainable. Increasing the size of airports always leads to serious losses of land that is generally flat and fertile.

19 September saw numerous demonstrations in Catalonia and across Spain calling for an end to airport expansion. The message was clear and simple: fewer airplanes, more life. The protest was especially large in Barcelona, as well as in Madrid and Palma de Mallorca. People are fighting for the climate, health and life, all of which are incompatible with bigger airports.  We need a different kind of mobility and an economic system that is oriented towards the needs of people and the limits of the planet.

The expansion of the Catalonian airport of Barcelona has been suspended, at least for now.
